After Chrissy Teigen’s miscarriage, some are asking when you should announce a pregnancy on social media. Let’s face it. The world has changed. Technology and social media have made it where people share every detail of their life with strangers, regardless of how small or large. Some people use social media to provide updates on everything they’re doing. They will tweet about driving to Starbucks or make sure to photograph their dinner and post it on Instagram before ever taking a bite. But what about major life events? Should every detail of a person’s life be shared on Instagram? How about with celebrities? Does the public have a right to know every detail about a celebrity’s life?
Some feel that when it comes to pregnancy, it is a good idea to wait until the third trimester before telling people that you are expecting. The reason is a little morose. Because most miscarriages tend to occur within the first three months, it is often suggested to wait until you know that you have a viable pregnancy before sharing the good news. This is to help lessen the emotional impact you may experience should you lose the baby. In Chrissy Teigen‘s case, she didn’t have that option.
She was beyond three months pregnant and the public already knew she was expecting. How could she have not revealed the sorrowful truth?
Still, some people took issue with how open Chrissy was about her miscarriage. She and husband John Legend named their son Jack and shared hospital photos from their tragic loss. In one photo, Chrissy is seen holding her stillborn son, who was wrapped tightly in a blanket.
Hilaria Baldwin also suffered a public miscarriage — twice. She posted her good news and fans were excited for her to add to her family. She then had to share her personal heartbreak that she lost the baby, not once — but two times. Thankfully, she conceived again and delivered a healthy baby boy whom she and Alec Baldwin named Eduardo.
Then there’s Mindy Kaling. Mindy decided her pregnancy was no one’s business but her own and she didn’t tell a soul. She waited until after her son was born to reveal she had given birth — much to the shock of everyone.
Emma Roberts revealed that she blocked her own mother who had taken it upon herself to break her daughter’s pregnancy news through Instagram DMs to Emma’s fans!
What do you think? Do you think social media is causing people to overshare personal information?
